R560 SASSA Grant-In-Aid October 2025: Payment Dates, Medical Form & Eligibility Details

The R560 Grant-in-Aid is a supplemental payment that will be made by SASSA in October 2025 and serve for the benefit of social grant recipients who are incapable of living alone due to their medical conditions and require constant monitoring. The caregivers are the ones who qualify for the extra grant, as they are taking care of those sick people who are not able to help themselves because of a severe illness or disability.

In order to qualify, the person should already be getting SASSA’s main grant (other than child support or SRD grants) and a doctor must verify that caregiving is needed on a full-time basis. The strategy is to alleviate the financial pressure of the caregivers looking after the very frail and powerless persons.

Who Qualifies for the Grant-in-Aid?

The following are the main eligibility requirements:

  • The person applying for the grant has to be a SASSA grant beneficiary, such as the older persons, the permanent disability, or the war veterans grant.
  • He or she has to provide medical evidence that he or she needs full-time care — that daily activities cannot be done by that person alone.
  • The applicant must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident; and refugees can apply too.
  • The individual’s income and property must be within the limits set for their current grant.

Those receiving solely child grants or the SRD grant are not eligible for the grant.

October 2025 Payment Schedule

The R560 Grant-in-Aid is paid together with the regular social grants in October 2025. The specific date varies depending on the main grant which the recipient gets:

  1. Old Age Grants start payment on October 3, 2025
  2. Disability Grants are starting on October 4, 2025
  3. Child Grants commence on October 7, 2025

Payments may be received on those days or shortly after, depending on the method chosen (bank account, post bank gold card, or retail outlets such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers).

How to Apply: Documents & Process

If you think you are eligible but still have not applied, follow these steps:

  • Go to the SASSA office closest to you and take the necessary documents.
  • Get a certified medical report that describes the medical condition and the need for full-time care.
  • Hand in your ID, proof of where you live, and the papers for your current social grant.
  • No charge is needed for the application.
  • After the submission, SASSA will evaluate your medical assessment and eligibility before coming to a conclusion.
