SASSA Grant Increase October 2025: Check The Updated Payment Amounts

SASSA has made the announcement that there will be a slight increase in the amount of social grants in October 2025. The people who get the old age grant, the disability grant, the war veterans grant, and the care dependency grant, will get an extra R10 each month.

This is in addition to a previous increase that occurred earlier in the year as part of a two-phase adjustment that is tied to the national budget for 2025/26. The small grant increase is meant to assist the households most affected by the rising cost of living and inflation by providing them with a little bit of extra support.

Reason for the October Adjustment

The government decided to do a two-step increase instead of a one-time large adjustment, spreading the increase across both April and October 2025. This strategy enables the beneficiaries to avail themselves of financial relief on a periodic basis throughout the year and to use the funds for essential payments with greater efficiency. SASSA’s CEO Themba Matlou said that the agency is ready and equipped to carry out the payments without any hitches and also reaffirmed the government’s intention to help the grant recipients.

Updated Grant Amounts

The following is a list of the grants that will have a slight increase in October 2025:

  • Old Age Grant (under 75): R2,310 → R2,320

  • Old Age Grant (75 and older): R2,330 → R2,340

  • War Veterans Grant: R2,330 → R2,340

  • Disability Grant: R2,310 → R2,320

  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,310 → R2,320

Though the increase is small, it still provides some support to the earlier raise and keeps a part of the value of the grants for the poor in society, especially in areas where every rand matters.

Payment Schedule for October

SASSA has staggered the payment dates for October 2025 to help with crowd control and distribute the money smoothly. Payments to old-age grant recipients will be made on 2nd October, those with disability grants on 3rd October, and children’s grants on 6th October. This method of payment spacing gives top priority to the pensioners and other at-risk groups who usually depend on early access to money for their basic needs.

Impact of the Increase

A seemingly insignificant increase of R10 can still be very significant as a total of millions of beneficiaries is taken into account. A large number of grant recipients spend their money immediately on food, transport, and healthcare which means even a slight increase will help the households to meet their daily expenses. The increase is very strategically planned to come late in the year when the households are already under pressure due to the additional costs toward the end of the calendar year.
