SASSA October Grant Payouts: Key Dates and Updates for Beneficiaries

Grant payments are made every month to millions of vulnerable citizens by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). It is very important that the payment dates are known well in advance by the grant holders, along with any changes thereto. With these columns as his/her guiding factors, SASSA has announced all the major dates and a few changes in the grant payments, as well as a one operational change that every recipient should be aware of.

Payment Draw Dates for October 2025

In accordance with the payment schedule by SASSA of the permanent social grants for the month of October, it must be noted that:

  • Older Persons/Old Age Grant: 2nd October 2025, Thursday
  • Disability Grant: 3rd October 2025, Friday
  • Children’s Grants (Child Support, Foster Care, Dependency, etc.): 6th October 2025, Monday

Grant-in-Aid (for carers linked to primary grant recipients who need full care) shall be paid on the very day of the main grant to which the caregiver is attached.

Grant Increases & Amounts

In October 2025 shall be a second, albeit very slight, increment of R10 for all SASSA beneficiaries of permanent grants, as would have been anticipated by the significant budget presenters.

Revised amounts of the principal grants shall be as follows:

  • Old Age Grant (60–74 years): from R2,310 → R2,320
  • Old Age Grant (75+): from R2,330 → R2,340
  • Disability Grant: from R2,310 → R2,320
  • Care Dependency Grant: from R2,310 → R2,320
  • War Veterans Grant: from R2,330 → R2,340
  • Child Support Grant: R560 (unaffected by this increase)
  • Foster Care Grant: R1,250

Though these meager increments, however, are somehow a relief against price hikes to date, a vast majority still feels that it hasn’t faced the skyrocketing inflation.

What Beneficiaries Should Do

  1. Check Your Payment Method and Update It if Needed : In case you may intend to just change your payment method from cash collection to payment into a bank account, then you are supposed to have submitted your request in due course (usually the 19th of the preceding month). Remember to present your ID and pay slips, i.e., bank details or recent bank statements.
  2. Biometric Enrollment : This is one of the most important advances against fraud- biometric enrollment- whereby a new or existing beneficiary must record his or her identity by fingerprint or face-scanning. As from 1 September 2025, more than 42,000 clients had undergone establishments via 432 offices.
  3. Be Aware of Branch Disruption : The Johannesburg SASSA office will close temporarily from 15 September 2025, following allegations of fraud, with its staff being relocated to alternative places of service (Westbury Clinic, South Hills, and Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre). Beneficiaries in the affected areas should check on the operational status of surrounding sites.

Challenges & Considerations

Small Increase: R10 hardly claims to be compensation for inflation, at least not for many beneficiaries.

  • Possible Delays: Delays could be experienced in banking systems or technical posting problems will see the funds being credited later.
  • Fraud & Verification: New biometrics and tighter verification could delay those with out-dated and incomplete records.
  • Branch Availability: In affected areas by closures, beneficiaries could be forced to adjust to an alternative payment site or a little bit of travel.
