SASSA Old Age Grant October 2025: Payment Date, Amount & Eligibility Details

October is set to be a very important month for the senior South Africans dependent on the SASSA’s Old Age Grants. Acceptance of the payment schedules and, on the other hand, the determination of the grant amounts have led potential beneficiaries to raise a number of questions; among these are: when would payment be made, how much they would pay, or even who is to be eligible. Here is what you need to know.

Date of Payment: When will the Grant be Paid?

According to SASSA’s confirmation, the scheduled payment for Older Person Grant (Old Age Grant) for October 2025 was made on Thursday, 02 October 2025.  Under this staggered method of payment, starting first are older person grant recipients, followed by those for disability, and lastly, those for child/family grants.  On this date, an older person with a bank account would have been able to view the deposited amount while those without it could have cashed the grant at retail stores and pay points partnered to SASSA.

The October 2025 Amounts: What Seniors Would Receive

For Old Age Grants in October 2025, the following amounts shall be payable to beneficiaries:

  • Aged between 60 and 74, they shall be paid R2,315 per month.
  • Individuals 75 years or more shall be paid R2,335 per month.
  • Late 2025 SASSA disclosures and announcements have been consistent in insisting on these values.

The grants are maximum grants, and in some cases, some beneficiaries may be given lesser amounts if their income or asset amounts exceed specified limits (see eligibility section).

Eligibility: Who Qualifies for the Old Age Grant?

In order to qualify for the Old Age Grant, the following requirements should have been met:

  • Age Limit: Applicants must be 60 years or older.
  • Citizenship or Residency: Applicants must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees residing in South Africa.
  • Means Test (Income and Assets): One has to be below the allowed limits in respect of income and assets. For instance, in compliance with the SASSA regulations, all single applicants should be earning an income which is below a certain maximum amount and must have assets whose value is below a certain maximum amount.
  • Not being granted another grant, and not in state care

One must not be getting any other social grant for him or herself and at the same time be an orphaned child in state care.

Documentation and verification

  1. Documents required include a valid ID and proof of residence; bank statement/s, proof of income/pension if any, and declaration of assets.
  2. From time to time, SASSA conduct grant reviews. In the event of change of circumstances in your income, assets, relocation, etc., your grant may be suspended or reduced pending such verification.

What to Do in Advance or During October

Check banking/payment method set-up: If you want to change the method of receiving a grant i.e., different bank, etc., make that request before the cut-off time within the month so as to avoid delays in payments.Make sure details are up to date. Changes in address, marital status, or income of the grantee must be reported to SASSA.
