SASSA Old Age Grant October 2025: Payment Date, Amount and Who Qualifies

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) pitches in by taking care of the issuance of the Old Age Grant as one of the essential social security support systems for the elderly. It is one of the major social assistance programs issued at the household level, intended to close the gaping lifestyle gulf for the elderly in South Africa. Payments are due in October of 2025, as are the grant amounts, as well as the qualifications for applicants.

Payment Date: October 2025

There is an approved payment calendar where the Old Age Grant for October 2025 must be issued on Thursday 2 October 2025. On that day, beneficiaries may receive payment prepared by one or more of the following methods:

  • Direct deposit into the beneficiary’s bank account.
  • Cash payment at selected pay points.
  • Cash withdrawals at ATMs and retail outlets with the SASSA Gold Card.

Beneficiaries have been cautioned not to prop up at pay points or even rush on the very first day, as the money just stays there in the pay lines waiting to be drawn by the beneficiary!

Grant Amounts for October 2025

The Old Age Grant is paid up to different amounts for different categories of applicants, with the aforementioned adjustment due to take effect in 2025.

  • Age from 60 years to less than 75 years: R2,320 per month.
  • Age of 75 years and older: R2,340 per month.

The slight increase is another attempt of the Government to protect pensioners against inflation in the costs of food, health, and transport.
