The South African Social Security Agency has confirmed the dates for payment of the Old-Age Grant for October 2025 by way of a press statement, thereby guaranteeing payment to pensioners within the given period. This grant is among the few entitlements that provide sustenance for a large number of aged persons in meeting their daily necessities, given the rise in the cost of living. Below is the entire list of payment dates, new amounts, and requirements for October 2025.
Payment Dates for October 2025
According to SASSA, payment for the Old Age Grant will begin on Thursday, 2 October 2025. Banks will deposit money in the accounts of the beneficiaries or the money could be withdrawn by use of the SASSA Gold Card in retail outlets and ATMs across the Republic.

It further advises that SASSA beneficiaries should not rush to payment outlets on the first day as the funds would have been safely loaded into their accounts.
Updated Grant Amounts as of October 2025
In accordance with the 2025 budget amendments by the Government, the amounts of SASSA Old Age Grants have been slightly increased in order to in some way compensate pensioners for the rising cost of living.
- For beneficiaries aged 60-74: R2,315.00 per month. For beneficiaries aged 75 and above: R2,335.00 per month.
This R10 increase effected in October is one of the amendments instituted mid-term by the government as cost of living relief measures in order to preserve the pensioners’ purchasing power against inflationary risks.
Who Qualifies for the Old Age Grant?
The SASSA Old Age Grant is paid to South African senior citizens on ranking and below the following conditions: Must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or recognized refugee. 60 years and above. Not being in receipt of any other social grant for him/her. Not admitted to any government institution or hospital or prison. Passing the means test: income and assets below the prescribed limit: Single applicants earning less than R105,600/year. Applicants that are married earning less than R211,200/year. Applications may be made online at www.sassa.gov.za or at the nearest SASSA office with valid ID, proof of residence, and bank statements.
How to Receive Your Payment
There are various payment options through which SASSA offers security, including:
- A direct bank deposit is any payment paid into your personal account.
- Money can be obtained from ATM’s or any retailers approved by SASSA (Shoprite, Boxer, Pick n Pay, Usave) using the SASSA Gold Card.
- Cash pay-points are useful in serving especially in rural areas.
- Beneficiaries are reminded to keep their PINs or personal information secret from anyone as SASSA does not charge for any payment or verification process.
Pensioners: A SASSA Message
SASSA assures beneficiaries that their payments will be secured and paid for, i.e., in October. Any pensioners who haven’t received funds by October 4 must contact the toll-free number on 0800 60 10 11.Officials also urge seniors to update their contact and banking information to avoid any delays in future payments.
