In an official announcement, SASSA revealed that there will be a R10 increase for all social grants which will be effective from October 2025. This modification is part of the national budget for 2025/26 and is in line with the first phase of raises that started in April 2025. The government wants to make life easier for these vulnerable groups that day by day are affected more and more by inflation.
Increased Grant Amounts Starting October 2025
SASSA has made it clear that an R10 increase will be applied to each of the major social grants in the payment cycle of October.
- Old Age Grant (Aged 60–74): from R2,310 to R2,320
- Old Age Grant (Aged 75 and above): from R2,330 to R2,340
- Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant: from R2,310 to R2,320
- War Veterans Grant: from R2,330 to R2,340
In spite of the increase being small, authorities claim that it still plays a huge part in giving continuous assistance and at the same time making sure that no group of less fortunate ones is invisible.
SASSA Payment Schedule for October 2025
SASSA not only announced the grant changes but also the official payment schedule for October 2025. The beneficiaries will have their funds available on the following days:
- Old Age Grants: Thursday, 2 October 2025
- Disability Grants: Friday, 3 October 2025
- Children’s and Dependant Grants: Monday, 6 October 2025
SASSA has asked the beneficiaries to patiently wait for their designated payment day in order to avoid the crowding at the payment points and also to have the payment done smoothly.
Significance of the R10 Hike
In spite of the fact that a few South Africans have labeled the hike as negligible in comparison to the inflation rate, SASSA on the other hand indicates that the change is a sign of the government’s constant caring for the most vulnerable people in the country. The R10 enhancement has been viewed as a symbolic act in the midst of a strict budget to support the poor financially in a consistent way.
According to SASSA, future evaluations might consider adding more depending on economic conditions and funding. The agency reassured that there will be no delays in grant payments and that the systems are well-prepared for the October distribution.

SASSA recommends that all recipients check their payment information and also make sure that their banking details are up-to-date in the SASSA system. Grant recipients via direct deposits will see the new amount automatically reflected in their account from the date of their scheduled payment.
