This double payment will be disbursed on certain beneficiaries whose payments for September were delayed while others are due to the new R10 top-up adjustment for October.
Dual Payment in October Explained
SASSA pointed out some were subject to technical payment delays during late September 2025, with outstanding amounts carried forward to October. To prevent further difficulties, the agency imposed a double payout window to allow impacted persons to be paid SOFOR delayed grants as well as the current month’s grants.Further, October marks the implementation of adjusted grant rates, involving an increase of R10 on most of the SASSA grants in terms of the mid-year cost-of-living adjustment. Consequently, eligible recipients will obtain: regular monthly grant plus eternity (arrears or top-up) amounts all in one pay cycle.
Double Payments: Who Qualifies?
Double payments shall not be paid to all beneficiaries. SASSA, in a statement, indicated the following types of beneficiaries who shall in all likelihood be able to avail of a double payment:
- Old Age Pensioners who did not receive their grant for the month of September because of bank or Postbank errors.
- Disability Grant recipients awaiting verification during the September cycle.
- Child Support and Foster Care Grants for beneficiaries affected by regional system updates.
- SRD R370 Grant beneficiaries whose September payment was indicated as “approved but not paid.”
All such cases were automatically flagged in the SASSA system; therefore, there shall be no need to file for a re-application or to make a manual request to get a second payment.
Exact Dates to Pay for October 2025
The official dates for payment in October 2025 were issued by SASSA:
- Old Age Grants: Thursday, 2 October 2025
- Foster Grants
- Disability Grants: Friday, 3 October 2025
- Children’s Grants (including Foster and Care Dependency): Monday, 6 October 2025
- SRD R370 Grant: Payments start 7 October and are finalised on 15 October 2025 depending on the verification of IDs.
- The payment of September and payments for the October grant shall both be recorded as having been deposited in the banks mentioned, or Shebeen card accounts from those dates onward.
Also, let it be noted that recipients wishing to cash-out for retail partners like Shoprite, Boxer, and Pick n Pay will be able to withdraw the funds after he or she has received an SMS that says Payment Confirmed.
How To Check Your SASSA Payment Status:
A beneficiary will be able to check her or his payment status by any of the following means:
- Official website: www.sassa.gov.za
- Moya App (meaning no data costs for a mobile user)
- SMS notification, or Postbank helplines for card payments
Make sure your bank details and ID number are verified to avoid any delays.
Assurance by SASSA to Beneficiaries
Assurances were given by SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi to citizens that any outstanding sums owed to them for their grants shall be paid in full while guaranteeing that the payment cycles be uninterrupted in the very future. In addition, beneficiaries were warned not to fall prey to persons who pretend that they can speed up or “unlock” payments for a high price.These monies belong to our beneficiaries,” said Letsatsi. “Nobody should be paying for accessing what is rightfully theirs.”
